River tubing on Lao: the summer activity to experience the flow

River tubing on the Lao River: how it works, who it is suitable for, what to wear and why it is one of the most fun activities of the summer on the Pollino.

In the river tubing you descend a stretch of river on an individual technical ring, letting the current be part of the game. On the Lao it is a direct and light summer activity, but not improvised: the route is chosen by the guide and the group always remains within a controlled line.

Before starting, the position of the body, use of the hands, distance to maintain and signals are explained. Helmet and jacket are mandatory; thermal protection depends on the water and the season. Even on an easy stretch, in fact, a river remains a living environment: boulders, currents and small drops must be understood.

Tubing is suitable for groups of friends, teenagers and families with children who meet the minimum age of the route. It is less technical than the kayak and more individual than the rafting: everyone experiences the current on their own vehicle, but the descent remains collective.

Bring your swimsuit, technical shirt, closed shoes that can get wet, towel and change of clothes. Avoid flip flops, jewelry and loose objects. If you wear glasses, use a lanyard.

The best time is when flow rate, temperature and weather allow for a pleasant descent. This is why availability doesn't just depend on the calendar. Write to River Tribe indicating ages of participants and dates: we will tell you if tubing is suitable for the group or if a river walking offers a better experience.
