Papasidero

The Calabria Region presents Papasidero as a reference point for rafting and canoeing in the Lao River Valley Nature Reserve. The Park Authority highlights the variety of vegetation and the fauna richness of the reserve. The relationship between the village and the river is therefore geographical, naturalistic and cultural, not just commercial.

Not all River Tribe experiences cover the same sector. Short, introductory descents differ from Grand Canyon and expeditions; the guide communicates the actual stretch based on the product and conditions. Those who want to combine a visit to Papasidero must separately consider times of activity, transfer and opening of cultural places.

The Grotta del Romito is located in the territory of Papasidero. UNESCO describes it as one of the most important archaeological sites in southern Italy and reports evidence of human presence in the Upper Paleolithic, as well as burials, artefacts and engravings. Among these, the figure of the Bos primigenius is famous.

The official page of the Calabria Region reconstructs the excavation campaigns and the different phases of attendance. Times, tickets and access do not depend on River Tribe: they must be checked on the Cave website or through official contacts before including it in the program.

The Park Authority highlights the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Costantinopoli, the Chapel of Santa Sofia, the Church of San Costantino and the remains of the Swabian castle and the city walls. The sanctuary overlooking the Lao is one of the places that make the relationship between the settlement and the valley visible.

A short visit does not replace a complete knowledge of the country. It is worth checking accessibility, events and local times, especially if the same day includes a multi-hour descent.

Based on Laino Borgo, Papasidero can become a dedicated visit before or after the day of rafting, avoiding overlapping uncertain times. Those who prefer a simpler pace can separate the experiences: a day on the Lao, a visit to the Grotta del Romito and time in the village. This is a more useful combination than a page that just repeats the word “rafting Papasidero”.
