Kayak to Calabria for Beginners: Getting Started on Lao River
Kayak in Calabria on Lao River: how a course for beginners works, what you learn, what equipment you need and how to choose the experience.
To get started with the kayak you don't need to jump straight into a rapid. A first course on the Lao River starts from the most legible water: position, paddle grip, propulsion, stopping, entry and exit from the current. Progression matters more than courage.
The initial lesson allows the guide to observe balance, coordination and confidence with the water. We work first on the fundamental movements, then on the trajectories. When the group is ready, simple steps are taken in which to put into practice what has been learned. The chosen section changes with river levels and is never decided by ignoring the conditions of the day.
The kayak is more individual than the rafting. Every mistake is felt immediately, but also every small improvement: a clean curve, an effective paddle, the boat that finally follows the gaze. It is suitable for those who want to learn a technique and not just participate in an excursion.
Boat, paddle, helmet, jacket, splash guard and thermal protection are prepared according to the person. Bring your swimsuit, technical shirt, shoes suitable for water, towel and change of clothes. Before the activity, communicate any physical problems and your relationship with swimming.
A kayak baptism helps you understand whether you want to continue with a multi-day course or prefer an occasional guided experience. Contact River Tribe with your dates and starting level - we'll build a session that really teaches, without skipping steps.
