How a rafting day works on the Lao river

A day of rafting on the Lao river starts from the choice of descent, not from the gommon. River Tribe operates from the base of Laino Borgo, in the Calabrian side of the Pollino National Park, and offers experiences that change for duration, level and requirements. Where rafting takes place on Lao

The Calabria Region indicates Lao as a reference destination for rafting and canoeing. The river crosses the valley between Laino Borgo, Laino Castello and Papasidero, but “rafting on the Lao” does not identify a single route. Each River Tribe tab describes a precise proposal and not all descents reach the same places.

The operating base is in San Primo in Laino Borgo. Boarding point, navigated area and landing depend on the product and can be adapted by flow, weather or access. This is why a generic account of the canyon does not replace the booking information.

How to choose the descent before you arrive

• Fun Trip: about an hour, easy level in the catalog, designed for the first approach and for families with children aged 6 years.
• River Walking + Rafting: about two and a half hours, with a walk in the hole and a part in the inflatable.
• Grand Canyon: about three hours, average level and different requirements from Fun Trip.
• Fast & Furious and No Limits: from about four to seven hours, with greater commitment and evaluation of the group.
• Expedition: one or two days, for those looking for an exploratory format after direct comparison with staff.

Duration and level of the catalogue are an orientation. Age, confidence with water, ability to follow the commands, number of participants and previous experience can make another descent more suitable.

What happens to the base

The first phase is administrative: registration, information control and group confirmation. Follows the dressing with the equipment provided by the product. Helmet, jacket, change, paddle and transfers are included according to the chosen card; shoes and personal clothing must comply with the instructions received.

Before boarding, the guide takes the briefing. Paid commands are explained, position in the inflatable and behavior to hold if a person ends in water. The briefing is not a formality: it serves to create a crew capable of listening and coordinating.

After the descent you make the expected transfer and you return to the base for the change. The total time therefore includes more than just navigation. Those who have a subsequent visit or transfer must leave room, without calculating the day only on the synthetic duration of the product.

How conditions and risks are managed

Rafting occurs in running water and is not a zero risk activity. Responsible management combines driving qualification, adequate equipment, tract choice, briefing and condition assessment. The F.I.Raft training distinguishes paths and specializations linked to the rivers.

Rain, flow, access and composition of the group can change the program. The guide keeps the final decision on feasibility and sector. A change of path is not an unrespected promise: it can be the correct consequence of an evaluation made on the real river.

How to organize the rest of the stay

Laino Borgo allows to reduce travel for River Tribe departures. With several days you can separate rafting from a visit to Papasidero or the Grotta del Romito, or add trekking, MTB or e-bike. Cultural visits have their own times and are not automatically included in the descent.
