ROMITO CAVE

The Romito cave, an integral part of the history of Lao, is one of the most important archeological sites dating back to the late Pleistocene and contains one of the oldest and most important evidence of prehistoric art in Europe. The Romito Cave is now divided into two areas: the external one, which is the shelter, and the inside cave. On a large boulder, at the limit between inner and outer area, is the incredible engraving of Uro (Bos primigenius). It is a wonderful representation of Paleolithic verist art and it’s characterized by natural proportions, attention to anatomical details and perspective. The cave of Romito is not only important for the ox engraving but also for the trace of ancient burials dating back to over 10,000 years ago.
