Mount La Spina, whose name derives from the particular shape of a “thorn” rose, is located in the Southern Lucan Apennines, in the province of Potenza, within the Pollino National Park. To reach the top of this mountain, located in the municipality of Lauria, you start from the church of Madonna del Soccorso, in the municipality of Castelluccio Superiore, at 1100 meters.
The first part of the trail is characterized by an alternation between gravel paths and beech woods. The western slope that precedes the peak is rocky and steep; however, upon reaching the summit, the steep climb will be rewarded by a wonderful panoramic view.
The Monte La Spina stands out among the most famous areas of the Park thanks to the young and luxuriant colony of Pini Loricati, unique trees and therefore protected species.
